In 2016 and 2017, Andy Bauch put out 8 lego art pieces that contained several secret keys to bitcoin wallets Well, finders keepers! Couple of days ago, a Reddit user claimed that he decoded the wallet keys for each art piece
Today I’m going to share his process to see if he forgot to take the bitcoins out Let's start by staring at all of the art pieces The first thing that you might have noticed is that the titles correspond to how many colors each art piece has So if the piece was titled “Bitcoin Initially valued at $60” it would have 6 colors When you look at each piece you can see there are a bunch of repeating patterns all over
The pattern is the answer to the private key that gives you access to bitcoin wallet You have to convert the pattern to ASCII by mapping out all possible base N numbers Let’s solve the “Bitcoin Initially Valued at $60” art piece We can do this by brute forcing each combination using a programming language like python So far we know the pattern, base, and all the possible numbers
Now, we need to go through each possible combination, convert to ASCII and find the string that doesn’t contain any weird symbols To access the wallet you need the secret key But this doesn’t look like a typically bitcoin wallet key So it can be a phrase that can be turned into a key We can do that with brainwallet and get the secret key which means we can finally access the wallet
Looks he really did take the bitcoin out of the wallet This piece alone contained one thousand dollars worth of bitcoin Now to see if it worked for other pieces, I spent time figuring out the patterns and secret keys for 2 other pieces and found them to be empty as well Why don't you try the other art pieces and see if the bitcoin is still in the wallet Subscribe for more videos
